How to earn Feathers

Feathers are the species currency, paid on a timer while you stay active. Here is the rate, the 10,000 cap, and what does not pay.

What actually pays

Feathers are added for time spent active in Feather Family. The documented payout is 5 Feathers every 90 seconds. Species, biome, and whether you are flying do not change that rate. There is no quest board and no ground pickup that pays Feathers.

Developer GoldenAviary has said Feathers cannot be bought with Robux, gifted, or traded. That rule is there so unlocks stay on the same timer for everyone.

The wallet cap

The balance cap is 10,000 Feathers. At 5 every 90 seconds, a continuous active session reaches that cap in 50 hours:

  • Intervals to the cap: 10,000 / 5 = 2,000
  • Seconds: 2,000 Γ— 90 = 180,000
  • Hours: 180,000 / 3,600 = 50

After 10,000, the timer stops paying until you spend Feathers in the unlock menu. Sitting at the cap wastes the timer. Buy the bird you were saving for, then keep playing.

Hours for common prices

These times assume you stay active the whole way and start below the cap. They are arithmetic from the 5-per-90-second rate, not a separate bonus.

Unlock example Price Active time
Raven 25 Feathers 7.5 minutes
Hummingbird or Peafowl 50 Feathers 15 minutes
Bird of Paradise 300 Feathers 1.5 hours
Barn Owl 450 Feathers 2.25 hours
Bald Eagle class raptors 500 Feathers 2.5 hours
Dodo 1,000 Feathers 5 hours
Argentavis 2,000 Feathers 10 hours
Dromaeosaur 3,000 Feathers 15 hours
Skeleton 4,000 Feathers 20 hours
Robot 5,000 Feathers 25 hours

Per hour of continuous play the same rate is 200 Feathers (40 payouts Γ— 5).

How to spend the time

Open the feather icon and buy when you can afford the next bird you actually want. Cheap songbirds are fun, but each purchase delays a 1,000-plus prehistoric bird if that is your goal.

Roleplay, nesting, and flying still count. The timer does not require a special farm spot. Roblox disconnects clients that send no input for about 20 minutes, so a fully idle window will not keep paying. Move, open a menu, or hop on a short interval if you are semi-afk.

Do not use executors, autoclickers, or "free VIB" scripts. Those are account risks, and they are not a Feather source the game provides.

What does not pay Feathers

  • Chalkboard quizzes in the Village school or Fossil Lab. A reported reward for a perfect quiz is a penguin plush, not Feathers.
  • Picking up loose feathers on the ground. That idea was dropped.
  • Creepypasta "survive and get 1,000 Feathers" events. The developer has said coded ghosts are not in the game.
  • Promo codes. None were published in the sources checked for this page.

Mythical Phoenix, Griffin, Peryton, and Cockatrice stays are Robux game passes. Feathers cannot buy them.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get Feathers in Feather Family?

Stay active in a server. The documented rate is 5 Feathers every 90 seconds, and the wallet stops at 10,000 until you spend some. Feathers are not sold for Robux.

Are there working Feather Family promo codes?

No public promo-code string was found on the experience page, in the developer Q&A, or in the collected code index. The Fossil Lab keypad is a different, per-server door code.

How do you fly?

On a flying species that is old enough, press Q on PC, tap the wing button on mobile, or press Y or Triangle on console. Press the same control again to land. Eggs and flightless species cannot take off.

What did the Burrowing Owl update add?

The experience page lists a Burrowing Owl skin, a Night Vision toggle for owls, nightjars, and Peryton, Halloween decorations in the Village, a chat-bubble icon for roleplay hosts who can chat, and remodeled adult heads for the Great Horned Owl and Barn Owl.

Is there an official Discord?

No. GoldenAviary has said official news stays on Roblox and that there is no official Discord. Join the Roblox group The Feather Family for the fan tag and group announcements.
